Cairo, GA: After the smoke cleared on a veritable “Battle
Royal” among one of the deepest sets of hogs seen
at a jackpot show, Aubrey Fitzgerald Shiver exhibited
the $2300.00 prize-winning pig at the Deep South Swine
Shoot-Out on Saturday, December 18, 2010.
The Deep South Swine Shoot-Out, sponsored by F-R-M Feeds and hosted
by the Pelham FFA Alumni, celebrated its fourth year by bringing
in Mr. Dan Hoge, coach of the nationally-renowned Black Hawk East
Junior College Livestock Judging Team. Mr. Hoge is regarded as one
of the premier livestock evaluators in the United States, and he
put on a clinic of how to manage the show ring as a judge. This show
is a unique, high-stakes show. It is the brain-child of GJSB member
Matt Barnes and the former Pelham Agricultural Instructor, David
Burton. While it only pays the top five in the show, the Grand Champion
has received as much as $3000.00 in the past! There is no other jackpot
that pays this much to the champion!
Along with Aubrey, winners included the McCranie Family as Reserve
Champion, The Tinsley Family in third, Matteson Barnes in fourth,
and Shawnee Fenton receiving fifth place money.
